Not the general election, but rather the end of a very strange decade, unique in so many ways – the first decade with no recession, unique over-valuation in the US stock market and bonds globally, a growing climate crisis, and a democratic structure in the Western world which is creaking badly at a time when “the 99%” are losing trust in our political structures.It is strange but true that decades appear to have distinct personalities, and we speak in terms of “the 20s”, “the 30s”, and “the 60s.” It is even more strange that the last years of each decade have a tendency to be a very significant turning point for markets.
