A bruising month. The febrile situation in the Middle East has distracted everyone from things closer to home. Inflation figures this month were flat but for the first time I can agree with the Bank of England governor that we are about to see a plunge in October’s figures. Most commentators say rates have peaked, which should provide much needed relief to retail sales and construction output - I am expecting interest rate cuts in the first half of 2024 before damage to confidence becomes too great.
