The shares spiked after Bloomsbury once again said it expects profits for the full year ending 29 February to come in “significantly ahead” of expectations. In the light of the statement, Investec upgraded its forecasts from £37.6m pretax profit/eps of 36.2p to £48.1m/45.2p. The Consumer division has seen exceptional growth driven almost single handedly by American fantasy author Sarah J. Maas. Fantasy is an area Bloomsbury now wants more of. The latest Maas novel, House of Flame and Shadow, reached Number 1 in the US, UK and Australia, and is the third book in Maas’ series that follows Bryce Quinlan, a half human, half fairy-like creature, in the fantasy Crescent City.
