I don’t often get to meet book publishers as there aren’t many quoted independents left and investors also think the business of publishing is plying a gentleman’s trade and that publishers might be wooly and not sufficiently commercial. The last one I met was Cassell, behind titles ranging from Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch to the Catechism of the Catholic Church back in the 1990s. Fever Pitch had been rejected because other publishers thought a fictional book about football (Arsenal) would not sell, yet it became a career builder for Hornby.Some might therefore put Bloomsbury in the same category.
