Bloomsbury’s results for the year to 28 February were one of those weird ones where the sales decline from £361m to £325m might make you think it looks a bit rubbish… until you look closer and realise it’s actually rather brilliant. Pretax profit was up from £42.1m to £44.9m (EPS 44.6p). The sales decline was entirely down to the Consumer division, which saw sales drop 21% to £218.2m and pretax profit fall 32% to £20.5m but this was only because Bloomsbury was up against last year’s blockbuster Sarah J. Maas numbers, which were of a type that only come around once in a blue moon.
