Along came Trump’s new war of choice, and overnight it was risk-off around the globe, including the UK. Smaller companies are always impacted more so on such news. The confidence of CEOs and investors turned down quickly, but not disastrously. There is a very clear silver lining. What were very cheap stocks have become ridiculously so. In many instances, a significant proportion of these shares are held by a selection of specialist small cap funds, who are long term investors. Any selling likely originated amongst retail investors, and into a relatively illiquid market is always going to have a disproportionately negative impact.
