Hargreaves Services (HSP; 562p) is one that has not been closely studied by the City in the recent past, in part due to the seismic changes that have taken place in its business. Hargreaves is still probably remembered as a UK coal miner but the company ceased all its mining in December 2020, which left it as a commercial land play, with 9,000 acres of former open cast mines in the Midlands, North of England and Scotland, where housing and wind farms are being built. Alongside that it also had a cluster of service businesses: these are dominated by a German minerals trading associate, HRMS (where Hargreaves is entitled to 86% of the economic benefit) whilst in the UK its services businesses include bulk haulage, earth moving for infrastr ...
