Bloomsbury Publishing - Trading ahead of expectations - again

Bloomsbury has again whacked the ball out of the park with an unscheduled update saying profit will materially exceed expectations. Sales for the year to end February will now be ‘over £260m,’ and pretax profit of ‘some £30m’ against previous consensus of £242.6m and £26.9m, respectively. The strongest performances have come from Consumer, driven by both front and backlist, with some good new titles (e.g. Samantha Shannon‘s A Day of Fallen Night in the fantasy genre) as well as its core backlist. It has signed Sarah J Maas for a further four books on top of the three still under the current contract.
