Bloomsbury has issued a trading update for the four months to 30 June, the seasonally smallest contributor to the full year. Total revenues were down 3% year-on-year but last year’s comparisons were tough as the Consumer division benefited from unexpectedly high sales of backlist Kitchen Confidential. It also masks strong growth in Academic and Professional, which is part of its Bigger Bloomsbury initiative.As I write there has been encouraging news that Tom Kerridge’s new book, Lose Weight and Get Fit, will be accompanied by a six-part primetime BBC Two television series of the same name - which will underpin sales.
