Although Shoe Zone sells shoes at only £10 a pair - and footwear is a staple rather than a discretionary purchase - the company reported challenging trading conditions in June and July, driven by further weakening consumer confidence. Low confidence, precautionary saving and ongoing inflationary pressures have reduced footfall in its stores, impacting both revenue and profitability. As a result, Zeus has cut its sales forecast by 5% to £152.0m and halved its pretax profit forecast to £2.5m/EPS 4.1p. For next year, forecasts have also been trimmed, with sales reduced by 4% to £156m and pretax profit cut by 30% to £4.5m/EPS 7.3p.
