Just two weeks after a well-received roadshow and following the chairman’s purchase of 74,000 shares at around 47p, Argentex was plunged into chaos by the wave of tariff announcements from President Trump. These had triggered a rapid depreciation of the US dollar against other major currencies, which in turn triggered a series of margin calls tied to Argentex’s FX forward positions. With some clients unable to post variation margin, Argentex has had to secure emergency funding in the form of a £6.5m emergency loan from cross-border payments firm IFX, which is now also making a recommended offer to acquire the business for £3m.
