For the six months to end March, pretax profit and eps went up by 60% and 61% to £6.5m and 16.3p, respectively. Having reduced its store count by one in H1, H2 saw RFX find its mojo for the first time in many years with four stores opened including one franchise. New stores penalise short run earnings, which I suspect explains the anaemic opening programme in light of the falling gold price.Regular readers will recall that the model is to leverage this store estate by generating income streams from four key segments - FX, pawnbroking, retail and precious metal scrapping and these saw gross profit overall climb to £28.3m, although the swing factor was providing travel money.
