Ultimate Products, which owns several homeware brands such as Salter and Beldray, has issued an H1 trading update to end January. The period saw sales down 4% to £84m, most of which was down to supermarket ordering held back by overstocking issues, but continuing efficiency gains and lower freights have resulted in improved operating margins so profits have been maintained. H2 has seen supermarket overstocking issues subsiding, allowing for improving exit sales rates. Forecasts of £18.4m pretax profit/eps of 15.6p are left unchanged for the year to 31 July. The net debt/adjusted EBITDA ratio is now tiny at just 0.4x (31 July 2023: 0.7x) as it has largely paid off the debt taken on to acquire Salter. Consequently, Ultimate said it ...
