Shoe Zone - Moving to free shipping online

Under chief executive Anthony Smith and current chairman Charles Smith, budget footwear retailer Shoe Zone has made the transition from an ugly duckling into a swan in the past few years. At a time when most retailers have struggled, last month Shoe Zone reported its FY23 results, which, after four upgrades during the year, almost doubled its earnings from the early forecasts. The eventual outcome was sales up 6% to £165.7m, pretax profit up 47% to £16.5m and earnings per share up 53% to 27.6p. Given that store numbers fell from 360 to 323 last year, and the number is now down from the 500 it had back in 2019, some subscribers might wonder exactly how it is doing it. But clearly Shoe Zone has been repositioning to better locations ...
