Regular readers will know my favourite pastime is to have a lazy wander around antique auctions. A couple of years ago I went to the estate sale of Severin Wunderman who was a Belgium-born child Holocaust survivor. He had built up a multi-million dollar business in luxury watches and became a major art collector and philanthropist. Wunderman’s watchmaking journey had begun in the 1960s in the US where during a chance encounter with Aldo Gucci, he persuaded him to let him have the licence to the Gucci brand, which he applied to swiss watches to launch Gucci Timepieces.
